This aerial photo (taken in 1965) shows the cottages
on either side of Gains Lane - where it is joined by what was called
Church Lane (as it provided access to the Church for those living
in Chapel End).
No 16 is shown - before it was extended - to be of the same design
as No 45 Chapel End. In the 19th century it was inhabited by the
Hopper, Yeoman, and Brawn families.
No 15 was owned by the Brawns from the 1820s and was occupied by
a high turnover of families. There were two cottages until the
1860s when a third was added. These no longer survive.
