The house in the fore-ground was the village’s
third Pub - The White Hart - from before1841 to about 1906. Nos
45 & 47 also held a shoemaker for many years and a grocers.
No 49 - the small cottage next door held two labourer families,
until in 1901 it housed the village policeman. It no longer survives,
although the steps leading to it still exist.
