This house was built in 1629 for John Henson. It
began life as the residence of the village squire - appointed by
the Watsons of Rockingham Castle, as Lords of the Manor, to be
his representative in the village. By the time of the census the
house was moving down market and was lived in by farmers until
about 1880 and then became a harness-makers, being described in
the 1901 census as "cottage & shop". It survived
until the 1920s.
